Tai Chi for Social Emotional Learning

Thursday, October 1, 2020 - 7:00pm to 7:45pm

TaiChi has health benefits through cognitive, emotional, and social mechanisms. With most of our daily movement restricted during the pandemic, it can have a huge impact on anxiety teachers and students are feeling due to COVID-19 and help ease stress and depression. Confucius Institute in Chicago would like to provide a free online Traditional Yang Style TaiChi for Beginners class for Chinese teachers. We hope teachers will come to learn and bring it back to your students.

TaiChi is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. To do TaiChi, you perform a series of postures or movements in a slow, graceful manner. Each posture flows into the next without pausing. Doing TaiChi helps to reduce stress, increase flexibility, improve muscle strength and definition, increase energy, stamina and agility and increase feelings of well-being.Yang Style TaiChi is one of the most famous and popular TaiChi styles.

The class will be taught by Master Yi Yang (lakefortunesgroup.com). Master Yang (Ph.D.) inherited traditional Yang style TaiChi, and has been studying and practicing it for over 30 years. He has been teaching TaiChi for over 220 hours in person as well as 100 hours of online classes. Master Yang is working at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine.
